Year 2016 SMS Bug, Y2KX Bug?

So after a long night of partying and bringing in the New Year how many of you woke up this morning and  looked at your phone to see who had wished you a Happy New Year and noticed the date said 2016 were we all just transported to the future or could this be the rumored Y2KX bug we have heard about?

So unless something crazy happened last night, this has to be a bug which has been confirmed from several US Carries that seem to be experiencing this SMS bug.  We survived Y2K only to be plagued with a Y2016 bug.  Subzero1312 from PPCGeeks noticed that   Today’s date 010110 is binary for 16 (hex) possibly? Not much is known about this bug but here is what we know about the bug so far (credit WMExperts):

  • Any message received on 1/1/2010 shows up as the year 2016
  • WM 6.1 and 6.5 users have reported the bug and doesn’t seem to be ROM specific. (Some non Windows phones have reported this bug)
  • Some T-Mobile users have reported they are not experiencing this bug.
  • HTC and LG are aware, but have not made an official response yet.

Stay tuned for more information on this bug and an possible fixes or official annoucments.
