So no big surprises here guys Smart Phone Data is up! It is to rise a huge amount over the next few years with 4G becoming more popular. The real problem here is unlimited accounts are being eliminated. Sprint is really the last carrier to offer true unlimited data. T-Mobile has even switched to tiered data; causing us to ask questions of what is next.
Verizon & AT&T, in particular, are interested in scrapping unlimited data plans as Android and iPhone owners use the most data – 582-megabytes per month, on average for Android owners and 492-megabytes per month for iPhone owners. Google should be proud to have this high of data usage as it states it seems to have better apps – or at least more traffic to the app store.
But the competition is likely to heat up as the percentage of cell phone owners packing smart phones increases from 37 percent now to an expected 50 percent next year, according to Nielsen.
As data plans cost more to consumers and in reality the data costs being less. It seems funny to me that cost rises when expense fall – I have to ask how much real profit the carriers are making just on data charges. I for one hope that this fixes itself and costs go down – what do you think PPCGeekers? Is data charges worth it – or do you feel the same as me… they should be cheaper in the long run even if we go tiered?
