Universal microUSB Mobile Phone Charger Standard Approved

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has just approved the microUSB connector as the standard for GSM mobile phones.

Before now, there were no obvious rules or guidelines in place, this allowed each phone manufacturer to select their method of connectivity (and frustrated consumers)!

Now before you get your hopes up and start throwing out your vast collection of USB cables, this new standard is not mandatory….but Sony Ericsson is already committed, and other manufacturers appear interested.

Now if only the headphone jack issue could be solved…….
