Confused? So is every one else. After announcing on the 14th of June that they couldn’t figure out how to deliver the Android Gingerbread update to the Desire with the Sense experience we would be expecting, and throwing in the towel. It appears today that they are doing an about face and and have announced that they are in fact bringing Gingerbread to the Desire.
I can’t help but think that this has something to do with the utter beating they have been getting on their Facebook pages. Every time they make a move recently, forces us the masses of HTC users, to react like an angry mob. I applaud the users for nipping at HTC’s heels and getting the job done. If developers, and tinkerers such as myself can get Gingerbread running with the latest version of Sense on the Desire, why can they not?
Some users also pointed out this may be a marketing ploy to try and get users to buy newer released HTC devices already on Gingerbread with the latest sense, but the fact is these newer devices share a lot of the same specs, so saying Gingerbread is good enough for one and not the other is some what suspect.
Quoted from one of our staff gTen:
” Wait..did HTC just pull a Samsung Behold?!?!?!
(It’s the incident that got Samsung tagged with the “doesn’t support their phones” thing…aka they promised 2.0 for the behold from 1.5 and then said it was impossible due to hardware reasons and just upgraded it to 1.6 and called it a day…)”
It almost looked this way for a moment. I remember this Samsung Behold ordeal and it labeled Samsung as “Not supporting their devices” HTC should have saw they were pushing this boat off the peer before they even started. Question is, did they turn back in time? Are they bailing out the boat fast enough? Or will every one remember this and cause HTC to flounder in the minds of the users next time they purchase an device?
What are your thoughts?
