Sprint and AT&T Request a Spectrum Swap

How often do you hear of phone companies swapping spectrum licenses? Recently, Sprint and AT&T filed a request with the FCC for a swap of spectrum licenses. This would give AT&T better coverage in a few major cities including: Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, New Orleans, San Francisco and other large metro areas. Sprint would also see benefits in areas including: Tampa, New Orleans, Charlotte, North Carolina and a few other areas.

The FCC document doesn’t provide too many specific details about what services and network capabilities will be enhanced in those areas, but both carriers claim that the transaction would help them to enhance their ability to expand commercial mobile wireless service. This could only be good for consumers who have service with each carrier, at least we hope so!

Anyone interested in a petitions to deny those will be due 12/7/2010 while oppositions will be due 12/17/2010.What do you think about this? If they suggest it’s only going to improve service doesn’t this sound great? We think so! Let us know what you think.
