Samsung’s Pico Beam

While there is still a large dearth of pico-projector smartphones in the U.S. market, Samsung has launched another pico-inclusive device abroad called the Samsung AMOLED Beam SPH-W9600. What is a pico-projector you may ask? It’s an image/video projector that is tiny in size that displays media onto a wall or another stationary display, without the hassle of wires. This particular implementation is 1.5x as bright as its predecessor, the SPH-W7900, and has support for showing photos and video along with displaying Microsoft Office documents and playing back DivX-encoded video. The projector module is 9 lumen and capable of up to 50-inch images.

The rest of the device is fairly standard, with HSDPA network connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a front-facing camera for video calls, and a gargantuan 11GB of storage memory. With the inclusion of a SD Card, total storage memory can top 26 GB.  The dimensions of such a device are 56 x 116 x 15.7 mm with a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen and 5-megapixel camera. There is word of a US bound Samsung Pico device, dubbed the Beam I8520.
